 PORTFOLIO

Introduction:

In my portfolio below, I have included a range of scales of work, from my textbook and larger pieces, all compiling to create my concept of Duality and showcasing my expressive and quality pieces along with development that have achieved this.

My main medium used is oil paint as I feel it is limitless when it comes to expressive but also intricate work, two things I aim for in all my pieces, especially when painting portraiture. Duality for me was an extremely interesting topic, and I have found more about this concept through my reading of 'Jekyll and Hyde' and my analysis of 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'- a book heavily focused on a man blurring the lines between art and reality, an idea I have portrayed through my work.

I have included images of my research around duality and also shown images of my pieces which contain contrasting ideas such as: Light and dark, good and evil, physical and mental and reality vs illusion, and i have done so through painting portraits with reversed intertwining images, contrasting bright light and dark colors and materials and also my study on mirrors and how reflections capture the beauty of the dual perfectly.

DUALITY SKETCH

  • A3 oil paint, photography study, exploring the art of the dual by layering tracing paper and sketching with pen.

  • I continued this process through my larger scale piece, using the reversed image of the face to present duality.

  • through the use of varied colours ( in this image red) i am able to show emotion through art such as anger.

TIMED PIECE
  • Timed, 1 hour study, using oil paint on black card in my A3 sketch book in preparation for my 5 Hour mock.

  • A piece dedicated to my concept of duality.

  • I achieved the chrome-like facial structure by using the contrast of light and dark a theme i have explored when researching my concept.

MELT

  • 5 hour, A0 mock using oil paint on black card.

  • I took the techniques and the contrast of the light and dark theme from my A3 sketch book study and applied it to this large-scale piece developing one of my final pieces toward my A- Level.

.

JEALOUSY

  • Furthering my exploration of reversing images i produced this A2 oil paint study on white card.

  • By using the colour purple merging with the skin tone i was able to portray the feeling of jealousy and show how i demonstrate split personality.

  1. FLUIDITY MOOD BOARD

  1. DUALITY RESEARCH THROUGH LITERATURE

FLUIDITY & REFLECTION

  • Timed A2, 2-hour ink study, on white card using only yellow and black ink with a paint brush & wooden stick for finer details

  • Artist copy (Kip Omolade Artist)who i have studied and gained inspiration from, i was drawn to his work due to my subsection on 'reflections' and how they capture duality.

OUT OF BODY

INTERTWINED

CHROME MAN

  • A0 10 hour piece, oil paint on black card, using the contrast of light and dark to show the Dual.

  • Image almost depicts what the study of the interior of the physical human body would look like.

  • I have achieved this by continuing the techniques i have studied from Kip Omolade and the art of reflection.

  • Photographed by me, with the use of led lights to create the green hue and shadow effect which i captured through the oil paint

NIGHT AND DAY

  • A0, 10 hour, oil paint study on black card

  • Using intricate thin lines and a mixture of bright colours to create the facial structure.

  • Also, including inspiration gained on the way through research of fluidity and creating mood boards in my sketch book.

MIRRORED

  • Part of my 10 hour final piece done in 5 hours, A0, Oil paint on mirrored perspex stuck onto wood.

  • Half plain mirror and the other Half with a blue tint following the theme of duality and experimenting on different surfaces

  • I had done practice pieces in my sketchbook leading up to this piece so that i was prepared.

REFLECTED
